  • DePaul Book Club: Whose Egg?

51Y9sWl+4cLLift-the-flap books are clever ways to engage your child in reading.  The suspense of waiting to see what is under the flap can keep even the most reluctant readers on the edge of their seats!  This style ranges from books with very simple text to books with rich vocabulary and illustrations that will grab your child’s attention.  Whose Egg?, by Lynette Evans, is a wonderful non-fiction book that will peak your child’s interest.

The author uses intriguing riddles and Guy Troughton’s beautiful illustrations of a variety of eggs to get your child thinking about what is under the flap.   Young children will enjoy talking about the size, color and shape of each egg.  Older children will enjoy listening to the riddles and trying to guess what animal is being described. “My egg is emerald green.  It lies like a jewel in this dry, red land.  I will hatch with wings and feathers, but I will never fly.  Who am I?”  Do you know?  Don’t let your child open the flaps until you have both made a guess!
