  • Pittsburgh Zoo visit

Miss Lauren from the Pittsburgh Zoo visited DePaul School with tons of cool animal facts and a few real live animals too!

Miss Lauren had all kinds of interesting facts about sloths up her sleeve. Did you know that sloths move so slow that, sometimes, plants grow on them?! Or that they only go to the bathroom one time a week because it takes them 1/2 a day to crawl down the tree and the other 1/2 of the day to crawl back up!

Mrithi is a 24 year old gorilla at the Pittsburgh Zoo and is the head of the family of gorillas there. The zookeepers at the Pittsburgh Zoo made a shirt that’s Mrithi’s size to show the students how big he actually is! How many preschoolers can fit into the shirt? 3!

Students got to meet Duro the armadillo. Did you know armadillo’s outter shells are made of the same stuff as our fingernails?

The preschoolers also got a chance to get up close and personal with Inky the snake. Did you know that when snakes eat, they swallow their prey whole? That’s like a kid swallowing a watermelon!
